CBT (Compulsory Basic Training):
WHO CAN TAKE THE CBT COURSE?
CBT training is open to anyone who is aged 16 & over and would like to ride a 50cc moped, or 17 & over and would like to ride a 125cc motorcycle that is geared or automatic. CBT Training is great for those looking for a commuter bike for work or for social pleasure.
We have recently placed 2 new motorcycles into our Training School fleet of bikes and the use of a motorcycle is covered in the cost too. We work in a relaxed atmosphere, there is no pressure (only what you put on yourself!) and we have a sense of humour which is great when you come around to renewing your CBT certificate.
What is included in the course?
Included in the price is all your training, all your protective equipment including helmet, gloves, and jacket, we ask you to wear sensible boots with ankle support and jeans or trousers. If you prefer to use your own equipment that is fine too, but NOT tracksuit or jogging bottoms or training shoes please.
Information about CBT:-
CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training. This is where you will learn about Road Safety, introduction to the controls of a motorcycle and how to ride safely on the road. You will experience a range of different road types and conditions.
The 1st part of the course is theory based. You will be introduced to your instructor and informed about the legal part of riding such as MOT, insurance and licence requirements. You will also be told about correct clothing to use, how to choose a good helmet and the basics about learning to ride safely.
The 2nd part is an introduction to learning the controls of a motorcycle or moped. You will be shown around the bike and learn about each of the bike controls. You will also carry out basic checks:- such as tyre pressures, filling with petrol & oil levels. Also taking the bike on and off the stand. Walking the bike and how to properly start your motorcycle or moped.
Then using our purpose built private training area, you will learn how to move off safely, take correct observations and learn how to use the clutch. We will slowly build your riding experience from slow riding, up to figures of eight, right & left turns, and emergency breaking.
After a break we are back to theory training on Road Safety. You will learn about how to stay safe on the roads. Many of the following aspects will be covered from using the Highway Code, to road vulnerability, rider visibility, defensive riding and your riding legalities.
The final element is practical riding on the roads. Your approved instructor will fit you with a radio and introduce you to the roads. The road ride lasts for a minimum of 2 hours where you will experience a range of different road types and conditions going from quiet back roads to some more busy roads which require forward planning. We only take up to 2 people out on the road at any once. We don't expect you to be an expert, after all, this may be the 1st time you have ridden a motorcycle or moped, we are only looking for a basic standard where you are confident using the public roads safely.
